Bring Me A Book (Various dates in October and November 2020)
NGO: Bring Me A Book Hong Kong (BMAB) is a non-profit organization that envisions a Hong Kong in which every child is read to, strengthening family and community bonds and creating a love of learning.
Dates: 24th Oct, 2020 (Saturday), 31st Oct, 2020 (Saturday), 7th Nov, 2020 (Saturday) and 14th Nov, 2020 (Saturday)
Where: Online Platforms - Zoom and BMAB Google drive
Hosts: Social worker from St. James' Settlement Jockey Club Chai Wan Integrated Services Centre
Materials: Laptop/tablet, earphone with microphone
Activity: During each of the volunteer sessions (dates above), volunteers will choose three stories from the BMAB Google drive. They will then read these stories to a group of 10 students maximum who are in primary 1 to primary 4. The activity accommodates 1-3 volunteers to read the books. Children Grade 5 and under are welcome to join in the reading session with an adult. Children Grade 6 and above are welcome to join the activity independently. Each adult volunteer may join the activity with one primary school aged child. Books can be read in English, Mandarin or Cantonese. This activity is suitable for the whole family.
Activity 1 - Refurbishing homes for the elderly, disabled and disadvantaged in Hong Kong

Activity: Habitat for Humanity’s Project Home Works allows volunteers to refurbish homes of low-income families, the elderly and the physically-disabled by providing house repairing services. The project strives to improve people’s living conditions by building community and
hope to those in need. No previous home repair and renovation experience is required. The types of work involved could be wall painting, ceiling repair, and house cleaning. There will be professionals on site to assist the volunteers with the repairs. Volunteers need to be aged 18+.

Activity 2 - Packing Holiday Food Parcels for the Underprivileged

Where: Feeding Hong Kong Warehouse in Yau Tong
Activity: Volunteers will learn about and help fight food waste and hunger in Hong Kong by sorting and repacking key staples into food parcels for Feeding Hong Kong’s charity partners. Volunteers must be at least 8 years old. We will include Christmas treats and Holiday Greeting
cards made by Club members and their families in the parcels. Please note that this activity is subject to government regulations on social distancing.
Activity 3 - Christmas Reading Session for Underprivileged Children

Activity: Volunteers will read Christmas-themed stories to a group of 12-15 underprivileged children in English and Cantonese / Mandarin. After the storytelling session, there will be an arts & crafts session in small groups. This activity is suitable for the whole family.
